Select: Settings | Control Panel | Regional Options
-
on the "General" tab: check the languages you want from the list at the
bottom of the dialogue box. You probably have to scroll down to find "Simplified
Chinese" and "Traditional Chinese"
-
click on "Apply" (at this point, your system may demand to be fed to Win2000
installation CD)
-
on the "Input Locales" tab:
-
under "input language" highlight "Chinese PRC," and click "Add"
-
an "add input locale" dialogue box opens
-
under "keyboard layout IME" [translation: input method editor] use the
drop-down list to select the input method you prefer. MS Pinyin is a strong
candidate if you are used to recognizing Chinese characters in pinyin romanization.
-
click OK
-
You can add more, one by one, if you have need of more than one
A little box should show up in the system tray (lower right hand corner
of the screen) which tells you what language you are in. Click it to change.
Each separate application has its own setting.
